My personal notes: (be aware that this are my experiences in Victoria Garden. In other places in and around Redding, this plant can behave differently)

Abelia grandiflora (Glossy abelia) is a beautiful very useful shrub. A semi-evergreen with shiny dark green leaves. When it gets really cold in winter the leaves turn into a bronze color. My shrubs are on a very sheltered spot and till now stayed nicely green in winter, but I have seen the bronze coloring of the leaves in Turtle Bay Gardens.
It is dense multi stemmed and fast growing bush, so forms a nice hedge towards the neighbors. In time it can look a bit ratty, but it doesn't mind being pruned heavily.
In May the tubular formed white flowers appear which attract butterflies and a second flush can be expected in fall. The flowers are slight fragrant.
Abelia grandiflora can be grown in shade as in Victoria Garden or full sun as in Turtle Bay.

I hope you would like to contribute to this site by giving your experiences.
