Abutulon hybrid "Cascade Dawn" overwintering in the living room

My personal notes: (be aware that this are my experiences in Victoria Garden. In other places in and around Redding, this plant can behave differently)

Abutilon pictum, (Flowering Maple). In the Netherlands, I knew Abutilon as a house plant and was very surprised to see it here in Redding sold as a perennial. Indeed it is a tender plant, but situated in a bit sheltered spot, it does survive the winters here, even some with more frost as usual. You only have to be patient. It will leaf out late.
It certainly does best in shade, where it grows in my garden up to 3 feet high and produces continuously flowers from may till frost.
I have them now in many color shades: yellow, red orange. I would like to specialy mention the Abutulon hybrid "Cascade Dawn", a hybrid that can handle a bit more sun and is even more hardy than most Abutulon species.
Some Abutulons, I keep in a pot. After frost I dig the plant with it's pot in the garden and lift them before the first frost strikes. In winter it will make a wonderful house plant and after a short break it will brighten up your room with its flowers.
