My personal notes: (be aware that this are my experiences in Victoria Garden. In other places in and around Redding, this plant can behave differently)

Salvia sonomensis (Creeping Sage) is a local Californian native. I took these pictures near Dog Creek.  These plants grow in part shade not far from the river bank. In my garden it seems happy nearly everywhere. Even in full sun on a steep slope, where the other Salvia Clevelandii 'Allen Chickering' is having trouble.
The blue flowers are a real butterfly magnet and spread a nice lavender scent.
This plant gives you a lot of worth for your money. One plant can cover an area from 10 by 15 feet. It is slowly, but steadily is taking over great part of the steep hill in my backyard. Staying low, not needing a lot of water or maintenance it could be an good alternative for a lawn.
